Women's Soccer Loses to St. Joe's, 7-1

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Saint Joseph's proved to be too much for Temple right from the get go on Friday night at Finnesey Field. The Hawks sprung for seven straight goals in the first 86 minutes en route to a 7-1 defeat of the Owls. Sophomore Gabby Lopez tallied her first collegiate goal in the 88th minute to cut in to the lopsided lead and end the shutout threat for the Owls.
Senior Jen Pfeiffer scored her first of two goals on the night when she opened the scoring spree for the Hawks in the eighth minute. St. Joe's sophomore and leading scorer Mo Hawkins completed a seven-point night, having a natural hat trick along with an assist. Hawkins scored goal in the 15th, 23rd and 62nd minute. Pfeiffer added her second goal of the game in the 64th minute before senior Maggie Lupinski and freshman Kersten Formento rounded out the scoring in the 69th and 80th minute, respectively. Lupinski's goal earned herself a four-point night, as she had a hand in two goals earlier in the contest. Nicole King chipped in with three assists.
On the free kick granted to Temple in the 88th minute, junior Brittany Wollner found Lopez for the goal that ended St. Joe's freshman goalkeeper Alicia De La Rosa's bid at a shutout.
Lopez's goal was the only shot the Owls were able to land on net for the game, as St. Joe's outshot Temple, 18-3.
With the loss, Temple falls to 4-10-0 on the year and drops to 1-4-0 in Atlantic 10 Conference play. The Owls have the remainder of the weekend off and will not return to action until they head to Ohio, where they will take on Xavier next Friday (Oct. 21) at 7 p.m. and Dayton next Sunday at 1 p.m.
