CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Atlantic 10 Conference will hold its first two championships of the season this weekend with the running of the Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships at Frank Liske Park in Concord, N.C., on Saturday, October 29.
The 34th Annual Men's Cross Country Championship 8K will begin at 10:00 a.m. Running for the Owls will be Christian Barletta, Cullen Davis, Philip Fanz, Matthew Kacyon, Will Kellar, Louis Parisi and Ben Thomas.
“Both the men and women's sides are young teams this year, which can be a disadvantage for us in terms of age, but we've worked hard to get better and better each week leading up to this coming weekend,” head coach Matt Jelley said. “Since we are a young team, this year has been mostly a matter if getting everyone acclimated to the distances that are run at the college level. I feel very confident in our male runners that we can have strong finish, as we are looking to lay the groundwork for the future.”
Temple will be highlighted by freshman Matthew Kacyon. Kacyon was the top performer for the Owls at two of the three meets this season, including the Paul Short Invitational in which he ran a time of 26:35.
Richmond looks to defend its 2010 championship. The Spiders, who outpaced runner-up Duquesne, 51-64, last year, will be led by juniors Jason Skipper and and Chris York, who finished 38thand 40th, respectively, at the 2010 Men's Cross Country Championship.
