Temple players active at 2011 Dick Vitale/Lakewood Ranch Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic
BRADENTON, Fla. – Filip and Kacper Rams, and Yana Mavrina and Paola Calderon are representing the Temple men's and women's tennis teams at the 2011 Dick Vitale/Lakewood Ranch Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic. The event is being held in Bradenton, Fla., on Friday-Sunday, November 11-13, 2011.
Filip Rams was successful in his opening round of singles play, defeating Adrian Forberg of Ole Miss, 7-6, 7-6. The senior moved on to face Miami's Omar Aly, dropping a tough three-set decision, 0-6, 6-1, 6-2.
Kacper Rams went up against Arizona's Giacomo Miccini in the singles opening round, falling 6-4, 6-2. The junior moved into the consolation round and received a win by default over Jason Tahir of Duke. He will take on Florida's Andrew Butz at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
In doubles action, the fourth-seeded duo came up against a tough Virginia pair of Phillippe Oudshoorn and Justin Shane, dropping an 8-0 decision.
In women's action, Mavrina received a bye in the opening round of singles play before taking on Notre Dame's Britney Sanders in round two. The sophomore dropped a tough 7-6 (5), 7-6 (3) match to the fourth-seeded Sanders. Mavrina moves on to the consolation round against Malika Rose of Oklahoma State on Saturday at 10 a.m.
Calderon faced Notre Dame's JoHanna Manningham in the opening round, dropping a three-set 6-3, 1-6, 6-4, match. Calderon will play Oklahoma State's C.C. Sardhina in the consolation bracket at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
