THE OPENING TIP
•Temple is 2-0 after impressive defensive performances in wins vs. Miami (OH) (70-36) and at Northeastern (72-58)...The Owls out-rebounded Miami 49-32, forcing 26 turnovers while committing just 13 and holding the RedHawks to 27.9 percent shooting from the field (12-of-43)...Temple committed just 11 turnovers at Northeastern and forced 27.

Shey Peddy has led Temple in scoring in both games, with 15 points vs. Miami and 20 at Northeastern...Brittany Lewis set a career high with 12 points vs. Miami and re-set her career high with 18 points at Northeastern along with a career-high eight rebounds.

•The Owls, coming off a 24-9 season, return two of their top three leading scorers from last season in seniors Peddy (team-best 14.1 ppg) and Kristen McCarthy (13.2 ppg)...Both were named to the 2011-12 Atlantic 10 Preseason First Team.

Tonya Cardoza, the 2010-11 Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year, returns for her fourth season with a current record of 72-28.

•Temple is 12-94 all-time against ranked opponents, but has won seven in the last seven years, going 7-24 since the 2004-05 season...The Owls' most recent win vs. a ranked opponent was Feb. 25, 2009 against #13 Xavier.

•#24/25 Ohio State is 1-0 after a 78-51 win vs. Tennessee State on Nov. 13...Senior Samantha Prahalis and junior Tayler Hill led the Buckeyes with 17 points apiece...Prahalis, the Preseason co-Big Ten Player of the Year, also dished six assists and went 9-of-9 from the free throw line.

•Northern Illinois is 1-1 and will not play again until facing Temple...The Huskies lost 73-42 to Loyola in their first game but rebounded with a 91-84 double-overtime win vs. Western Illinois on Nov. 16...NIU went 13-17 last season and returns three starters from that team under second-year head coach Kathi Bennett.

SERIES RECORDS
This is only the second meeting between Temple and Ohio State, with the Buckeyes taking the first a year ago in Philadelphia by a score of 84-75. As a head coach at Vanderbilt from 1991-2002, Jim Foster was 2-0 against Temple, his alma mater. From 1978-91 Foster coached at Saint Joseph's, where he compiled a record of 14-8 against the Owls.

The game between Temple and NIU will also be the second meeting. The Owls defeated the Huskies at home a year ago by a score of 79-56.

OWLS RECEIVING VOTES IN BOTH POLLS
The Owls are receiving votes in both national polls (Nov. 14); 14 votes in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll and seven votes in the AP Poll.

McCARTHY IS HEAD OF THE CLASS
On November 4, it was announced that senior Kristen McCarthy was one of 30 candidates selected for the Lowe's 2011-12 Women's Basketball Senior CLASS Award, which recognizes notable achievements in four areas- classroom, character, community and competition.

The 10 finalists will be announced in late January, at which time a national ballot will be available to fans. To learn more, visit the website at www.seniorclassaward.com.

BREAKOUT GAMES FOR BRITTANY LEWIS
Junior Brittany Lewis has set career highs in both of Temple's wins, scoring 12 points vs. Miami (OH) and then a career-high 18 points and career-high eight rebounds at Northeastern. Lewis also tied her career-high three assists in both games and her career-high 37 minutes played in both games. Prior to Friday's game, the most minutes Lewis had ever played in a collegiate contest was 20.

PEDDY THEFT
Shey Peddy set the program's all-time record for steals in a single season last year with 104, recording at least one steal in all but one game. Her 3.2 steals per game ranked second in the A-10 and tied for 10th in NCAA Division I.

TAKING CARE OF THE BALL
Temple did an impressive job taking care of the ball last season, as the Owls averaged just 13.6 turnovers per game to rank sixth among all teams in NCAA Division I.

THREE GRAND
An impressive three Owls (Temple's three leading scorers) reached the 1,000-point milestone last season. Shey Peddy was first, hitting the mark on Dec. 21. Her current 1,354  points include two years playing at DI Wright State.

Kristen McCarthy was next, reaching the milestone in a win vs. Saint Joseph's on Jan. 19, and has now scored 1,233 points to rank 11th all-time at Temple.

Qwedia Wallace, who graduated after last season, led the Owls with 21 points in a win at UMass on Jan. 26 to hit exactly 1,000 for her career. She was the 19th player in the history of the program to achieve the feat, and now ranks 12th with 1,190 points.

PRESEASON RESPECT
Kristen McCarthy and Shey Peddy earned A-10 Preseason honors, as both were named to the First Team. Peddy, an A-10 First Team selection last year, led the Owls with 14.1 ppg. McCarthy was an A-10 Second Team selection a year ago and ranked third on the team with 13.2 ppg.

THREE-POINT STREAK
The final game of the 2008-09 season marked the last time Temple did not hit at least one three-pointer as a team. The Owls have now achieved that feat for 69 straight games.

The streak very nearly hit snags in two of Temple's games last year- at Saint Joseph's (Feb. 23) and vs. Dayton (March 6), as the now-graduated Qwedia Wallace hit the only three in both games with under a minute left each time.

TEMPLE VS. THE POLLS
Temple is 12-94 all-time against ranked opponents, but has won seven in the last seven years. The Owls are 7-24 since the 2004-05 season. Their most recent win vs. a ranked opponent was Feb. 25, 2009 against #13 Xavier.

NOW THE TEAM TO BEAT
After four years of finishing higher than predicted in the A-10, the Owls are finally picked first in the conference in a tie with Dayton. Last season Temple was picked third and ended up second, and two years ago the Owls were picked fifth and went on to tie for second.
