Shey Peddy Named A-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week

Peddy also earns College Sports Madness A-10 Player of the Week honor

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Temple's Shey Peddy and George Washington's Chakecia Miller were named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Basketball Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, as announced by the league office on Monday.

Peddy, a senior guard, averaged 21.5 points, 6.0 rebounds and 4.5 steals in Temple's two games against #11/12 Rutgers and SEC foe Auburn last week. The Roxbury, Mass., native led the Owls with 16 points against the Scarlet Knights, shooting 5-of-10 from the field including 2-of-3 behind the arc, also grabbing a team-high six boards and tying for game-high honors with four steals.

She then recorded her Temple career-high with 27 points in leading all players as the Owls defeated Auburn, 73-57. Versus the Tigers, she hit 11-of-16 attempts from the field including 3-of-5 from three-point range, grabbed six rebounds and recorded a game- and season-high five steals. For her efforts, Peddy was also named the College Sports Madness A-10 Women's Basketball Player of the Week. Recently, Peddy was honored with being named to the 2011-12 Naismith Women's preseason watch list as one of 50 Division I women's basketball players to watch this season.

Miller, a freshman guard, was instrumental in helping George Washington to a perfect 3-0 week with wins over Old Dominion (58-52 OT), Maine (56-54) and Houston Baptist (80-44). The Marietta, Ga., native came off the bench for the Colonials, to average 9.0 points, 2.3 rebounds and 2.6 steals, while shooting 50 percent (10-20) from the field. She also added four steals and one block.
