Owls' Men's Tennis Wins Third Straight With 6-1 Decision Over Richmond

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Temple men's tennis team won two of three doubles matches, and five of six singles bouts, on its way to a 6-1 win over visiting Richmond on Friday, February 11, at Arthur Ashe Tennis Center. The Owls improve to 5-2 on the season, while Richmond drops to 2-3.
The Cherry & White jumped out to an early lead by winning the doubles point after wins at two and three. Sophomore Kacper Rams and junior Dmitry Vizhunov put the Owls in good position with an 8-4 decision at number three, and juniors Mansur Gishkaev and Andrey Morozov clinched the point with their 8-4 win at number two.
In singles play, Vizhunov continued to build on the Temple lead with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Zach Carl at number four. Rams followed with a straight-set 6-4, 6-0 decision over Justin Baker at the third flight to put TU ahead 3-0.
Freshman Taylor Hairston clinched the victory for Temple with his 6-4, 6-3 win against Rafael Arana at number five. Junior Filip Rams and Morozov added two more points for the Owls at the first and second flights. In a battle of last season's Performer's of the Year, Filip Rams (Most Outstanding) defeated Sebastien Fauchet (Rookie) in straight-sets, 6-4, 6-3, at number one. Morozov took a 6-1, 7-5 decision against A.J. Nelson at number two to round out the scoring for TU.
The Owls host George Washington, selected to finish first in the A-10, on Saturday, February 12, at Arthur Ashe Tennis Center at 5:30 p.m.
