Owls' freshman earned win in first collegiate start
PHILADELPHIA - Announced by the league today, Temple baseball freshman Matt Hockenberry has been named Philadelphia Big 5 Pitcher of the Week, in voting conducted by the city's head coaches and sports information offices. Hockenberry, making his first collegiate start, struck out three batters over 6.2 innings of work to secure the series sweep against North Carolina Central.
Hockenberry held NCCU scoreless over the first five innings, not allowing a hit until the second batter of the third inning. The Hanover, Pa., native gave up just two earned runs and two walks in the start, leading Temple to a 16-2 win to complete the series sweep.
The Owls return to the Tar Heel State for a three-game set at High Point next weekend, February 20-22. First pitch for Friday and Saturday is set for 4:00 p.m., with the series finale on Sunday getting started at 1:00 p.m.
