Women's Fencing Ranked Seventh In Latest Poll

Owls move up two spots from last release
PHILADELPHIA - The Temple women's fencing team has deservedly moved up in the national rankings, with the newly released poll showing the Owls ranked seventh in the nation. Temple is in competition this weekend hosting the Temple Invitational on February 27 in McGonigle Hall - a meet that hosts all top-ten teams.
"We are happy to receive recognition of our improvement as a team reflected in a climb in the standings," said assistant coach Bradley Baker. "These rankings also help reinforce our commitment to playing as many of the country's top programs as possible. Consistently facing the toughest opponents possible is part of how we build perennial success and is an important part of what we do as a program."
Temple moved up two spots from its previous ranking, boasting a 22-5 dual meet record which includes upset wins over then-#2 Penn State, then-#7 Northwestern and then-#8 Penn. Notre Dame owns the top spot in the poll still, with Ohio State making the biggest jump of all - going from #10 to #2.
"As a coaching staff we're very happy to see the on-strip performance of our athletes acknowledged in this way as we strive for continued success completing the regular season and entering post-season play," said Baker. "We already have 12 meets this season against teams currently ranked in the top 15, with 5 more against top-10 schools this coming weekend."
This weekend's Temple Invitational will feature the #7 Owls, #3 Princeton, #4 St. Johns, #5 Penn State and #9 Duke in the women's competition, and #2 St. John's, #4 Penn State, #7 Princeton and #8 Duke in the men's competition. Action is slated to begin at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, February 27, with Senior Day ceremonies taking place prior to the start.
