Owls defeat Drexel, 6-1, at Arthur Ashe Tennis Center

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Playing its home opener, the Temple men's tennis team hosted cross-city rival Drexel on Friday, February 4. The Owls made quick work of the Dragons, defeating their guests, 6-1, at Arthur Ashe Tennis Center.
TU claimed the doubles point with a sweep of all three matches. Juniors Mansur Gishkaev and Andrey Morozov were 8-2 winners at number one, while junior Filip Rams and freshman Taylor Hairston teamed up to win 8-3 at number two. Junior Dmitry Vizhunov and sophomore Kacper Rams made it the clean sweep with a convincing 8-1 defeat at the third flight.
Vizhunov carried his doubles success over to singles play, earning Temple a quick point at number three with a 6-1, 6-1 win against Mehdi Rhazali. Kacper Rams was not far behind with a straight-set victory over Bryan Nguyen, 6-0, 6-4, at the second flight to put the Owls ahead 3-0. Gishkaev secured the win for Temple with a 6-2, 6-3 win at number four.
Also winning in singles action were Hairston (6-0, 6-1) at the fifth flight, and junior Stanislav Stekolshikov (6-1, 6-1) at number six.
“The men came back from a tough loss at Penn and came out strong and really dominated play today,” said head coach Steve Mauro. “Special praise goes to Kacper Rams, who stepped up and played in the number two position and won his match in straight sets.”
The Cherry and White are 3-2 on the year and return to action on Sunday, February 6, with an 8 a.m. match against Georgetown at Arthur Ashe Tennis Center.
