Box Score
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Temple's men's tennis team kept the victories rolling with a 4-3 win against visiting Georgetown on Sunday, February 6, at Arthur Ashe Tennis Center. The Owls improve to 4-2 on the season with the win.
In doubles action, sophomore Kacper Rams and junior Dmitry Vizhunov picked up an 8-2 win against Charlie Caris and Alex Friedlich at number three. After Georgetown took the first doubles flight, 8-4, junior Filip Rams and freshman Taylor Hairston secured the doubles point for TU with an 8-6 win at the second flight over Casey Distaso and Bryan Miller.
In singles play, Kacper Rams pushed the Temple lead to 2-0 with his 6-1, 6-3 victory over Michael Clarke at number two. But the Hoyas made things interesting, winning their next three singles bouts and three, one and six, respectively, to pull ahead 3-2.
Hairston and Vizhunov came through in the clutch, however, earning victories at numbers five and four to pull out the Cherry and White win. Hairston made it a 3-3 match with a 6-3, 6-3 straight-set win against Distaso at number five. Vizhunov clinched the win with a 6-2, 6-2 decision over Brian Ward at the fourth flight.
“I was very happy with the way the men came out and played today,” commented head coach Steve Mauro. “Despite playing without our number one singles player Filip Rams, due to injury, we still got the win. Overall, I am very happy with the team's effort.”
The Owls return to action next weekend, playing host to a pair of Atlantic 10 rivals in Richmond (2/11) and preseason favorite George Washington (2/12).
