AMBLER, Pa. –
Senior pitcher Kristen Marris threw five innings of no-hit softball, and the Temple offense pounded out 10 hits, as the Owls cruised to a 12-0 win in the first game of a doubleheader against Delaware on March 15 at Ambler Field. The Blue Hens turned the tables and defeated the host team, 11-5, in the nightcap.

Temple scored in each of the four innings it batted in the mercy-run-rule game one. The Owls put three on the board in the first, one in the second, three in the third, and put the game away with five in the fourth.

Freshman Stephanie Pasquale, just recently named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, continued the hot start to career with a blast over the right centerfield fence in the first. The shot scored sophomore Ali Robinson and junior Samantha Schoell, who had both walked to lead off the inning.

The Owls' big inning came in the fourth with the squad pounding out five hits to score five runs. Three of those runs came off the bat of sophomore Gina Sciarrone, who made her first hit of the season a big one with a three-run homerun over the leftfield fence.

The Blue Hens threatened to break up the shutout in the top of the fifth, putting two runners on with a walk and a fielder's choice, but Marris fittingly got the final out with a pop out to herself.

Marris went 5.0 innings and struck out two. The no-hitter was the first for a Temple pitcher since Katie Burdeaux on March 25, 2008. She helped herself at the plate as well, going 2-for-3. Freshman Devynne Nelons was also 2-for-3, while Pasquale was 2-for-2 with three runs scored.

In the nightcap, it was a reversal of fortunes as the Delaware squad found their offense and recorded 14 hits and plated 11 runs, while Temple failed to get its first hit until the fourth inning and didn't score until the fifth.

The Blue Hens looked like they were going to end the game early with an 8-0 lead in the top of the fifth, but TU would not go quietly. A one-out single from junior Christina Sykora and an error put runners on second and third. Marris stepped in a sent a double to left centerfield, brining in Sykora from third. Robinson followed with a groundout to the shortstop that brought in sophomore Kayla Cook and Marris.

The Owls finally shut down Delaware in the sixth, but turned around to give up three more runs in the top of the seventh to find themselves down 11-3. Temple got two of those back in the bottom of the final frame on a two-run Robinson homer, but relief pitcher Amanda Stacevicz induced three-straight popups to end the game.

Marris was 2-for-3 from the plate again with a double and one RBI. Freshman Sarah Prezioso was 2-for-4 with a two-bagger. Freshman Brooklin White took the loss on the mound, going 3.2 innings and giving up eight hits and seven runs.

Temple is 9-11 overall and remains home to host Atlantic 10 rival Dayton on Sunday, March 20. The conference play opening doubleheader begins at 12 noon.
