Box Score
AMBLER, Pa. - Senior Ben White came close to history on Friday afternoon at Skip Wilson Field, dazzling with a complete game performance in which he allowed no runs and a mere one hit and one walk to guide the Temple baseball team past Fairfield, 9-0. Temple, now on a seven-game win streak, improves to 10-5 on the year, while Fairfield falls to 5-7.
Only three Stags managed to reach base as White (9.0 IP, 3 K) twirled arguably a career-best game, throwing 6.2 innings of no-hit ball before allowing a hit in the top of the seventh. The only other baserunners came on an error in the first and a pair of hit batsmen, with none advancing past first base.
Freshman Will Remillard headed up the offensive efforts for Temple, going two-for-four with two doubles to drive in three runs and score twice. Redshirt-junior Steve Nikorak knocked in a pair on a homer in the first, while senior Adrian Perez led the Owls with three hits.
Sophomore Mark Bordanaro was roughed up in the start for Fairfield, giving up eight hits and four runs over four to take the loss. Senior Brian Comiskey could do nothing more to stop the bleeding, allowing five runs and five hits over three innings of relief.
Temple jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Perez started things off with a double, scoring on an RBI-single by senior Ryan Ferguson (1-3, RBI). Nikorak stepped in as the next batter and belted a homer to put the Owls up for good. The single by Ferguson extends his team-best hit streak to 15 games.
Senior Ben Flanary led off the bottom of the second with a double, scoring on a single by junior Cameron Green.
White cruised through the Fairfield lineup, hitting a batter in the second and fifth, and giving up a walk in the fourth. He nearly got out of the seventh unscathed, surrendering a two-out single to Fairfield's Anthony Hajjar which broke up the no hitter.
Temple tacked on one in the sixth and four more in the seventh for good measure. Remillard accounted for the run in the sixth, scoring on a balk after leading off the inning with a double. He would step up in the seventh and crush a bases-loaded double that cleared the bases.
The Owls are now off to their best start since 1984, when started 11-4 through the first 15 games. Temple's seven-game win streak is also the best since 2004.
