Nikorak tabbed Player of the Week, White earns Pitcher of the Week
PHILADELPHIA - Announced by the league today, Temple baseball redshirt-junior Steve Nikorak and senior Ben White have been named Philadelphia Big 5 Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, in voting conducted by the city's head coaches and sports information offices.
Nikorak, a native of Stroudsburg, Pa., hit a scorching .625 (10-16) over the past week to help extend Temple's win streak to nine-games and improving his own hit streak to 10 games. He posted two or more hits in every game of the week, coming a home run short of the cycle in Temple's 14-3 victory over Penn on March 15. His 10 hits were a team-best over the four games, as were his nine runs scored. Nikorak also played it perfect in the field and contributed 5.0 innings of work on the mound to earn the win in the Owls' contest against St. Peter's. He was already named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week this week.
White took a no hitter two outs into the seventh inning of his start against Fairfield, allowing his only hit to the third batter of that frame. The Parkesburg, Pa., native walked one and hit two batters as the only other base runners he allowed on the game, giving up no runs and striking out three to earn the complete game shutout.
Temple plays at home today, hosting Monmouth at Skip Wilson Field at 3:00 p.m. The Owls open up Atlantic 10 play this weekend, traveling to Xavier for a three-game series starting March 25.
