AMHERST, Mass. - A late run was not enough to overcome an early deficit as Temple lacrosse dropped its first Atlantic 10 game of 2011 on the road at #20 Massachusetts, 12-9. Sophomore Stephany Parcell notched a hat trick for the Owls with three goals, while sophomore Charlotte Swavola scored two goals and recorded two assists.
Temple falls to 2-8 overall and 0-1 in the A-10, while UMass improves to 8-2 and 1-0.
The Minutewomen's Katie Ferris scored five goals and tallied an assist to lead UMass.
Ferris scored twice in a 4-1 opening run for UMass over the first eight minutes of the game.
Parcell and Swavola combined for three goals and an assist to put the Owls within one, 5-4 at halftime.
The momentum swung quickly back in favor of the Minutewomen, who opened the second half on a 5-0 run to put the game out of reach for Temple. Ferris added her team's 11th and 12th goals to double up Temple, 12-6, and despite scoring the only three goals of the final nine minutes the Owls could not erase the deficit.
Temple will play its next game on the road but closer to home, facing Saint Joseph's on Sunday, April 3 at 1:00 p.m.
