PHILADELPHIA - Sophomore Charlotte Swavola scored five goals and added two assists to lead the Temple lacrosse team to a come-from-behind, 12-11 win at cross-town rival Saint Joseph's on Sunday afternoon. The Owls now stand at 1-1 in Atlantic 10 play and 3-8 overall, while the Hawks are now 5-6 overall and also 1-1 in conference play.

The five-goal performance by Swavola marked the fourth game this season when she has scored at least three goals. Junior Stephanie Markunas notched her first hat trick of the year for Temple with three goals. Sophomore goalkeeper Meghan Clothier entered the game in the second half and made six saves to pick up the win for the Owls in goal.

Despite out-shooting the Hawks 14-8 in the first half, the Owls found themselves knotted with Saint Joseph's at every goal all the way up to a 7-7 score at halftime.

Saint Joseph's came out firing in the first five minutes of the second half, scoring three unanswered goals to take a 10-7 lead. The Hawks still led by three at 11-8 a few minutes later, but their 11th goal would prove to be their last as Temple scored the game's final four goals over the last 20 minutes.

Junior Missy Schweitzer put the Owls' ninth goal on the board, while Markunas and freshman Lea Britton scored back to back goals near the 14-minute mark to tie the score at 11-11.

Fittingly, it was Swavola who scored the game-winner for Temple with 11:02 remaining, and neither team scored the rest of the way.

Temple will return home for its next two games as the Owls look to make headway in earning a berth in the Atlantic 10 Tournament, which will be hosted by Temple on April 29 and May 1. Temple's next game is a 3:00 p.m. contest against George Washington on Friday, April 8.
