LOWELL, Mass. – Senior Qwedia Wallace scored a game-high 27 points including five three-pointers to lead the Temple women's basketball team to a 75-56 win against St. Bonaventure (20-11) in the Atlantic 10 Tournament quarterfinals at the Tsongas Center. The second-seeded Owls (23-7) will play sixth-seeded Dayton in their semifinal on Sunday, March 6 at 2:30 p.m. on CBS College Sports.
Wallace hit 10-of-14 from the field overall in her 27-point effort, and also tied for game-high honors with three steals. Shey Peddy was nearly perfect for the Owls at 7-of-8 from the field and 5-of-6 at the line on her way to 21 points.
Kristen McCarthy scored 16 for Temple and Marli Bennett led all players with 10 rebounds.
St. Bonaventure's Megan Van Tatenhove led her team with 14 points and Armelia Horton came off the bench for 13.
Temple made seven of its first 11 attempts from the field including two fastbreak buckets on its way to a 17-9 early lead. The Owls had a 10-point, 24-14 lead at the nine-minute mark of the first half before St. Bonaventure's Chelsea Bowker got hot behind the arc.
Bowker's back-to-back treys cut the margin to four with eight minutes left in the period, but a quick 7-0 run for Temple put the lead back at double digits.
Peddy converted a four-point play near the one-minute mark to give the Owls their largest lead of 14, 41-27. The Bonnies made a late run in the final minute, but Temple was able to take a nine-point, 43-34 lead into halftime.
Temple shot nearly 57 percent in the first half to the Bonnies' 45.8 percent, and the Owls went 5-of-10 behind the arc. All three of Temple's leading scorers were in double figures by halftime, with Peddy leading the way at 13 points.
St. Bonaventure's Van Tatenhove hit early jumpers in the second half to bring her team to within five, but it was as close as the Bonnies would get.
Wallace hit her second and third treys of the game followed by a layup near the 13-minute mark to put Temple up by 17, 58-41.
The Owls went on to lead by as many as 25 down the stretch, and held St. Bonaventure to just one field goal over a five-minute span.
