Filip Rams Leads Men's Tennis to 6-1 Win Over Hofstra

Owls win all but one singles match, sweep doubles point
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – After not facing an opponent for over two weeks, the Temple men's tennis team showed no signs of rust in a 6-1 victory over visiting Hofstra on Monday, March 7. The Owls improve to 7-3 on the season with the win at Arthur Ashe Tennis Center.
Play got started with singles and a Stanislav Stekolshikov win at number five over Adrien Bailly, 6-3, 6-0. Andrey Morozov followed with another straight-set 6-3, 6-0 defeat of Ben Thompson-Star at number three to put TU up 2-0 early. Kacper Rams and Filip Rams followed suit with wins at the second and first flights, respectively, for the 4-0 lead and the guaranteed win.
The Pride got on the board with a win at number six, but it didn't come easy. Kurt Mauro took the first set, 7-5, before his Hofstra opponent Jason Sinkoff came back to win the second, 6-3. Sinkoff came out on top in the super tiebreaker, defeating Mauro 10-5 for Hofstra's only point.
Mansur Gishkaev rounded out Temple's singles scoring with a 7-5, 6-4 win at number four over Matthew Gemmell.
In doubles play, with the match already decided, TU claimed all three matches. Filip Rams and Morozov won 8-1 at number one, Dmitry Vizhunov and Kacper Rams teamed up for an 8-2 win at the second flight, and Taylor Hairston and Gishkaev posted an 8-4 victory at number three.
The Owls are back in action on March 11 with a non-conference match at #58 Virginia Commonwealth at 2 p.m.
