KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Temple softball team got back on the winning side with two wins to open the Rebel Games in Kissimmee on Tuesday, March 8. The Owls defeated Bryant 3-2 before handing Detroit Mercy a 12-6 loss.
Against the Bulldogs, senior Kristen Marris went the distance on the mound for the win. Marris gave up just three hits and struck out six.
TU scored in the second, third and fifth innings. The run in the second game on a Bryant error, while the run in the third came off the bat of freshman Stephanie Pasquale when she belted the first homerun of her career. The Owls won the game when Marris delivered a double down the right field line to plate junior Christina Sykora, who had reached base on a hit by pitch, and moved to second on Kayla Cook's sacrifice.
Against Detroit Mercy, the Cherry and White jumped out to an 8-1 lead after just two innings. The Titans would get back in the game, however, drawing within 9-6 by the sixth inning.
Junior Melissa Robbins helped to get momentum back on Temple's side, delivering an RBI double in the TU's half of the sixth to push the lead back to 10-6.
Freshmen Devynne Nelons, Stephanie Pasquale and Sarah Prezioso all had impressive games at the plate. Nelons was 2-for-5 with four RBI, including a three-run homerun. Pasquale went 3-for-4 with a double, while Prezioso was 3-for-5.
Temple is back in action at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, March 9, with a game against Sacred Heart.
