KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Temple's softball team continued play at the Rebel Spring Games on Wednesday, March 9, dropping games to Sacred Heart and Valparaiso. The Owls fell 9-2 to the Pioneers, and lost a 4-0 decision to Valpo.
Against Sacred Heart, Temple gave up three runs in the bottom of the third inning and could never recover. TU did get on the board with one run in the top of the fourth, and one more in the top of the sixth, but that was all the offense the squad could muster. It was not without opportunity, however, as the Cherry and white stranded eight on the base path.
Junior Christina Sykora was responsible for driving in both of Temple's runs in the game thanks to a 2-for-3 day at the plate. Also collecting two hits was senior Kristen Marris, who was 2-for-2 with a double.
On the mound, sophomore Crystal Nyman took the loss, lasting only 1.2 innings while giving up four hits and three runs, all earned. Freshman Kylie Kristovich came on in relief, but didn't fare any better against the hot Sacred Heart bats. Kristovich allowed nine hits and six runs, four earned.
In the second game of the day, Temple and Valparaiso carried a 0-0 tie into the fourth, but the Crusaders proceeded to spread four runs out over the next three innings, while holding TU without a score, on the way to the 4-0 victory. The Owls themselves struggled offensively, recording only three hits.
Marris was the loser on the mound, going all seven innings and giving up seven hits.
Temple is 5-9 and will play again on March 11 at 3 p.m. against Holy Cross.
