PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Temple men's tennis team picked up a 5-2 win at Atlantic 10 foe Duquesne on Friday, April 1, 2011. The Owls improve to 13-5 overall and 4-2 against conference opponents.
TU took the lead early with wins at third and second doubles. Mansur Gishkaev and Andrey Morozov got the match started with an 8-4 victory at number three, before Kacper Rams and Dmitry Vizhunov secured the point with an 8-6 win at number two. The Dukes salvaged a sweep in doubles play with a 9-8 (7) win at the first flight.
In singles play, Vizhunov added to Temple's lead with a 6-3, 6-3 defeat of Max Rubin at the third flight. Filip Rams increased it to a 3-0 lead with a straight-set win at number one over Aram Abgaryan (6-2, 6-3).
Duquesne got on the board with a win at number five, but Kacper Rams sealed the Cherry and White victory with his 6-3, 6-3 win at number three. The Dukes took the second singles flight in three sets, 2-6, 7-5, 10-3, but Taylor Hairston ended the match in Temple's favor with his 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 come-from-behind win at the sixth flight.
TU takes on Detroit Mercy at Duquesne on Saturday, April 2, at 12 p.m.
