Third-Seeded Men's Tennis Squad Moves on at Atlantic 10 Championship

Owls defeat #6 Charlotte, 4-0, in second round

SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – The third-seeded Temple men's tennis team advanced to the semifinal round of the Atlantic 10 Championship with a 4-0 win over sixth seed Charlotte at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in Saint Louis, Mo., on Friday, April 15. Due to rain in the Saint Louis area, the match did not begin until late Friday evening, and lasted into the early morning hours of Saturday.
In doubles action, junior Dmitry Vizhunov and sophomore Kacper Rams gave the Owls an early advantage with an 8-2 win at number three. Charlotte came back to claim the number one flight, so the doubles point came down to the duo of juniors Mansur Gishkaev and Andrey Morozov. The pair came through with an 8-6 victory to give TU the 1-0 lead.
Junior Filip Rams made quick work of his number one singles opponent, defeating Charles Martin-Lecam, 6-0, 6-4, to make it a 2-0 Temple advantage. Vizhunov came in with another straight-set win, handling Moritz Bernhoerster, 6-1, 6-4, at number three. Gishkaev secured the win for the Cherry and White with his 6-1, 7-5 victory over Alex Weber at number six.
The Owls, 17-7, move on to face second-seeded Xavier in the championship semifinals. Temple dropped a 5-2 decision to the Musketeers earlier this season.
