SAN DIEGO - The Temple men's varsity 8 crew placed second in its heat Saturday morning at the San Diego Classic held on Mission Bay. It marked the program's best finish in a heat at the prestigious regatta since the 2004 season.
The Owls' varsity 8, comprised of junior James Barr (stroke), junior Nenad Ninkovic (7-seat), junior Jason Cartwright (6-seat), junior Brian Reehill (5-seat), sophomore Mike Mirabella (4-seat), senior John Masterson (3-seat), freshman Fergal Barry (2-seat), senior Scott Waters (bow) and junior Donald Norris (cox), finished five seconds behind Stanford and .48 seconds ahead of third place California-San Diego. Jacksonville and Northeastern rounded out the five-team heat.
Temple will compete for the Copley Cup Sunday (12:15 ET) and will row from lane three. The other competitors will be Stanford (lane 1), California (lane 2), Oregon State (lane 4), Cal-San Diego (lane 5) and Michigan (lane 6). The race will be videostreamed live. Click here to view.
