The Owls improve to 18-16 overall with the win, while the Privateers fall to 3-34.
McKoy went two-for-four in the contest to move into sole possession of first place all-time in Temple history, now with 236 career hits. Senior Ben Flanary (2-4, 2B, SF, 5 RBI) drove in a game-high five runs, while senior Ryan Ferguson (3-6, 2B, HR, 4 RBI) plated four to propel the Owls to 13 runs on the game.
White (4-6) was stellar in the start, scattering six hits and limiting New Orleans to two runs to earn the win over eight innings pitched. Redshirt-freshman Ryan Kuehn saw the first action of his career in the ninth, giving up just two hits and no runs over the time.
For New Orleans, Zach Kelt (1-8) was chased after four innings of work giving up three runs, relieved by Robert Ormsbee who threw the next three and gave up as many.
Temple picked up a pair in the top of the first to take a 2-0 lead and give White room to work. McKoy led off the game with a triple, the hit that put him on top of the TU career list, and scored on a double by senior Adrian Perez. Ferguson followed with a double as the next better and drove in Perez.
White sat the Privateers down in order in the bottom of the first, and kept them off of the board until the Owls' bats went back to work in the fourth. Sophomore Daniel Dragos hit a one-out single to start things off, stealing second to put himself in scoring position. Junior Jabair Khan reached on an error, with Flanary driving in both on a single to left. Sophomore Elijah Yarborough kept the rally going with a double down the left field line, moving Flanary to third. McKoy lifted a ball to right to score Flanary and put the Owls up 5-0.
The Privateers picked one up in the fourth on a solo homer by Andrew Garcia, but Temple came right back and added three more in the top of the fifth. Ferguson led off the frame with a single to left, with Nikorak doubling to the same spot to put runners on second and third. Freshman Will Remillard singled to plate Ferguson, with Khan doubling to left to score Nikorak. Flanary hit a sacrifice fly that sent Remillard home to put the score at 8-2.
Though it was not needed, a five-run eighth gave Temple even more breathing room. McKoy and Perez drew walks to start the frame, setting up Ferguson for a three-run jack to left - his team-leading ninth of the year. Remillard drew a one-out walk to restart the rally, moving to third on a double by Dragos. Flanary ripped a double that sent both home for a 13-1 Temple lead. UNO picked up one run in the top of the eighth, with Kuehn tossing a scoreless ninth to close things out.
The series continues with a doubleheader beginning at 2:00 p.m. tomorrow.
