Owls' junior runs 8:41.66 to meet USATF qualifying marks

PRINCETON, N.J. - Junior Travis Mahoney shattered his school record in the 3000m steeplechase at the Princeton Invitational to highlight action for the Temple men's track & field team on Friday afternoon.  Members of the Owls' squad also competed at the Widener Invitational this weekend.

Mahoney, running a time of 8:41.66, won the event and also impressively met USATF Championships and Olympic Trials qualifying standards.  The mark currently ranks second nationally amongst all Division I athletes as of results heading into this weekend.

At Widener, senior Emmanual Freeland took second and met IC4A marks in the 200m dash with a time of 21.80.  Senior Chris Durante won the javelin with a toss of 187-06 and junior Brian Littlepage took fourth in the hammer with a toss of 151-08.  Senior Miles Dryden fared well in the long jump, going 23-02 to place second behind former Owl and current volunteer assitant coach Tim Boeni, who placed first with a leap of 23-06.

Select Owls will compete next in the prestigous Penn Relays, held April 28-30 at Franklin Field.
