WASHINGTON, D.C. –
It was Kristen Marris' day on Sunday, April 3, as the senior pitcher threw two complete game victories for the Temple softball team, winning 2-1 in the opener and 3-1 in the nightcap. The right hander also had an impressive day at the plate, going 4-for-8 with a double, triple and two RBI.

Things did not start as Temple would have liked in the opener with George Washington staking itself to a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Two hits and a TU error in the frame allowed the host squad to take the early lead.

It was shortlived, however, as the Owls came back to score two in the top of the second. With two outs, George Washington pitcher Kara Clauss had trouble finding the strike zone, walking Devynne Nelons and Meaghan Marley. Christina Sykora stepped in and singled to the shortstop to load the bases. Marris then helped herself, delivering a two-run single up the middle to put Temple ahead.

That was all the offense either team would muster, with both pitcher's throwing impressive games the rest of the way. Marris ended the contest with a season-high 10 strikeouts, while walking four and allowing four hits. Clauss calmed down after the second, completing the game with six strikeouts, two walks, and six hits allowed.

Marris continued to shine in game two, leading off the game with a triple past a diving centerfielder. The Owls capitalized with a Sarah Prezioso sacrifice fly to right centerfield one out later, giving the squad a 1-0 lead.

The Colonials knotted the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the third on a Julie Orlandi solo homerun to right field.

That score would remain until the top of the sixth when Ali Robinson ripped her team-leading sixth homerun of the season over the right centerfield fence. Temple threatened to score more in the frame, putting runners on second and third, but a great catch by the George Washington leftfielder on a Sykora blooper got the Colonials out of the inning without further damage.

Temple added an insurance run in the top of the seventh. Marris led off with a single, before a two-out single from Stephanie Pasquale brought Marris all the way around. Pasquale was thrown out trying to advance to second for the third out, but not before Marris crossed the plate for the 3-1 lead.

Marris got a strikeout, line out and ground out in the bottom of the frame to end the game.

Marris finished game two with five strikeouts, walking just one and giving up three hits.

Temple is 16-18 overall and 7-3 in Atlantic 10 play. The Owls stay on the road for a doubleheader at Central Connecticut on April 6 at 3 p.m.
