CHARLOTTE, N.C. –
The six-team field has been set for the 2011 Atlantic 10 Softball Championship, to be held at the D.L. Phillips Softball Complex at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte in Charlotte, N.C., May 11-14. Top-seeded Fordham will be joined by No. 2 Massachusetts, No. 3 Saint Joseph's, No. 4 Temple, No. 5 Charlotte and No. 6 Dayton in the hunt for the A-10 crown.

Temple is in the tournament for the first time since the 2007 season. The Owls have not won the event since 2005. At 21-21 overall and 12-6 in conference play, the Cherry and White earned the fourth seed and will face fifth-seeded Charlotte. The 49ers, also the host of the championship, are the only team in the field that Temple did not face during the regular-season.

The Owls are led by the play of 2011 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year Stephanie Pasquale. Pasquale, who is the first Temple Rookie of the Year selection since 2002, leads the squad, and is the top freshman among league players, with a .365 batting average. Pasquale is joined by fellow all-conference teammates junior Rachel Knable, freshman Sarah Prezioso and senior Kristen Marris as some of the top performers on this year's team.

Knable and Prezioso, members of the all-conference second-team along with Pasquale, are the squad's second baseman and shortstop, respectively. Knable is batting .293 with seven doubles and four homeruns. Prezioso, who was also named to the all-rookie squad with Pasquale, is hitting .295 with a team best eight doubles and eight homeruns.

Marris, an Atlantic 10 Honorable-Mention selection, is the team's ace on the mound, going 15-10 this season with a 2.59 ERA. In conference play, she was even more impressive with an 11-3 record and a 1.98 ERA. Marris also gets it done at the plate as the team's leadoff for nearly the entire year. She is batting .346, second on the squad, with six doubles and a team-high two triples.

Fordham (38-17) posted a 16-4 record to win the regular season title for the second time in program history and earns its ninth-straight championship appearance. The Rams enter the Championship on a seven-game win streak and will enjoy a first round bye as they look to win their first Atlantic 10 Softball Championship.

Massachusetts (28-17, 14-5) will look to pick up its seventh-straight tournament title and 23rd overall this year in Charlotte. The Minutewomen also earn a first-round bye after finishing the regular season in second place.

The double-elimination Championship commences on Wednesday, May 11, with fourth-seeded Temple (21-21, 12-6), squaring off against fifth-seeded Charlotte (28-22, 10-6) at 1:00pm. Game one will be followed by third-seeded Saint Joseph's (28-14, 10-4) taking on sixth-seeded Dayton (22-24, 11-8) at 3:30pm, with the losers of games one and two facing each other at 6:00pm.

Fordham will play its first game at 1:00pm on Thursday, May 12, against the Temple-Charlotte winner, while Massachusetts begins play at 3:30pm against the Saint Joseph's-Dayton victor. The last game of the day features the winner of the 6:00pm game on Wednesday versus the lowest remaining seed at 6:00pm on Thursday.

Third round play on Friday, May 13, begins at 1:00pm with another tripleheader. The championship finals will be played on Saturday, May 14 at 3:30pm, with a possible second game scheduled for 6:00pm. Both games will be televised live on the CBS Sports Network. CBS Sports Network can be found nationally on DirecTV channel 613 and the Dish Network channel 152. The winner of the tournament receives the Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
