Owls' redshirt-junior records his 23rd double of the season

Box Score - Game 1 | Game 2

AMBLER, Pa.
- Redshirt-junior Steve Nikorak had a monster day at the plate, which included his school record 23rd double of the season as the Temple baseball team fell in both games of a doubleheader to Saint Joseph's at Skip Wilson Field on Saturday afternoon.  The Owls are now 23-27 overall, 3-18 in Atlantic 10 play on the year while the Hawks improve to 19-30, 10-12 in A-10 play.

Junior Brant Norlander (3-5) was pulled after four innings of work in the first game, striking out four but allowing five earned runs.  Classmate Tyler Horst took over for the next two, with freshman Zach Batchelor throwing the final three frames letting up just one earned run.

Redshirt-junior Steve Nikorak crushed a pair of two-run homers in game one, driving in four runs and scoring twice.  The Stroudsburg, Pa., native hit a single and his Temple record 23rd double of the season in the second game.  Seniors Byron McKoy and Adrian Perez each doubled in the first contest, with Perez driving in one run.

Saint Joseph's Chad Semindinger (3-6) tossed seven innings to earn the win, striking out eight batters and holding Temple to just three runs.  Dominic Favazza earned the save securing the final two outs and allowing no runs.

The Hawks jumped out to an early lead in game one, going up 7-0 after six innings of play.  Temple chipped away with three runs in the bottom of the six.  McKoy doubled to lead off the inning, scoring on Perez double to left center.  After Ferguson flew out to left, Nikorak dug in a roped a two-run shot to left to make the score 7-3.

A pair in the ninth from Saint Joseph's increased the deficit to 9-3, but the Owls showed fight with two in the eighth.  Perez singled with one out to start things off for the Owls, with Nikorak coming up with two outs and hitting a no-doubter over the left field fence to make it 9-5.  Temple would plate no more as the final score would end the same.

Freshman Matt Hockenberry (2-4)  looked confident in the start, giving Temple 5.2 innings of work with seven strikeouts.  Redshirt-sophomore Steve Visnic came on for Hockenberry and worked his way out of the sixth, throwing the next three innings allowing no runs.

A.J. Holland (2-8) took the Hawks through seven innings, fanning six and holding Temple to one run during his time.

Saint Joseph's took another early lead in game three, going up 3-0 by the end of the top of the fourth.  The Owls came back to make it 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth, as senior Rafael Cordero hit an RBI-single that plated Nikorak.

After the Hawks plated another run in the top of the sixth, the Owls threatened to come closer in the bottom of the inning.  Nikorak ripped his school record 23rd double of the season to spark a two out rally, moving to third on a single by Cordero.  The rally would be thrwarted by Holland, who secured a strikeout to end the inning.

Visnic cruised the Owls through the next three, but the Temple bats were unable to do anymore damage as the final score remained 4-1.
