Box Score

ARLINGTON, Va.
- It was another one-run decision and for the second straight game the Temple baseball team came out on the wrong end, falling 3-2 to George Washington in the final game of the season on Saturday afternoon.  The Owls finish 2011 with a 24-29 overall, 4-20 in Atlantic 10 play record while George Washington ends 19-36, 9-15 in A-10 play.

Freshman Matt Hockenberry started and lasted five innings, fanning five batters and scattering seven hits.  Hockenberry was charged with two of the three GW runs.  Redshirt-sophomore Steve Visnic (2-2) threw the next 1.1 innings and gave up the deciding tally, being relieved by junior Tyler Horst who closed the contest.

Redshirt-junior Steve Nikorak led the Temple offense going two-for-four with an RBI and a run scored.  Freshman Will Remillard, senior Byron McKoy and sophomore Elijah Yarbourgh each singled in the contest.

Hockenberry held the home team scoreless over the first two, but gave up a pair in the third as the Colonials took a 2-0 lead.

The Owls got one back in the fourth as Nikorak and Remillard started the frame with back-to-back singles.  Both runners advanced on a flyout by senior Ryan Ferguson, with Nikorak making his way home as Remillard was caught in a run down.

Senior Adrian Perez was the catalyst in the sixth for the Owls, drawing a walk and stealing second to get in scoring position for Nikorak, who ripped a single up the middle to plate him.

George Washington sent home the deciding run in the bottom of the sixth, however, as the Owls were held scoreless the remainder of the contest.
