Nikorak tabbed second team All-League, Ferguson All-Academic
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Announced by the league today, Temple baseball's redshirt-junior Steve Nikorak has been named second team All-Atlantic 10 while senior Ryan Ferguson was named to the Academic All-Conference squad. It is the first postseason accolade from the conference for either athlete.
Nikorak (.359, 79-220) had an incredible 2011 campaign, snapping the TU single-season record for doubles in a season with a conference-best 23 - a mark that is currently tied for 10th nationally. He also led the team in home runs (11), runs scored (56), RBI (58) and slugging percentage (.623). A native of Stroudsburg, Pa., Nikorak held down the hot corner for the Owls in nearly all 53 games, also serving as a member of the TU pitching staff.
Ferguson was named a member of the A-10 All-Academic team after being recognized as a Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 University Division first team member. Batting .316 (71-225), the Glen Mills, Pa., native was second on the team with 10 homers, also driving in 48 runs and scoring 42 times. He proved to be very versatile, making all 53 starts this year at either right field, first base, designated hitter or catcher.
