Mahoney runs new personal best in steeple, Keogh places seventh in hammer
PHILADELPHIA - Senior Bob Keogh and junior Travis Mahoney have earned a spots in the NCAA Championships in their respective events with incredible performances on Friday afternoon at Indiana University. Keogh placed seventh in the hammer throw and Mahoney ran a new personal best in the 3000m steeplechase to punch tickets to the NCAA Championships held at Drake University on June 5-8.
Keogh, a native of Willow Grove, Pa., made the cut of the top 12 athletes with his toss of 205-10. The senior held his own with the likes of Louisiana State's Walter Henning (3rd, 226-08) and Michael Lauro (4th, 217-09), along with Georgia's Justin Welch (5th, 215-06) and Florida's Jeremy Postin (6th, 214-07).
Mahoney continues to improve every time he runs the steeple, this time setting a new personal best of 8:36.10 in the event to place top three in his heat and advance to Des Moines.
Senior Miles Dryden competed in the long jump yesterday, unable to advance as he placed 31st with a leap of 23-04.00. Classmate Emmanual Freeland ran the 200m prelims, placing 41st with a time of 21.83.
