Men's Track & Field In Third Place After Day One At A-10 Championships

Owls put up 53 points on day one, three individual champions

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Three Owls locked in individual titles to help lead the Temple men's track & field team to finish day one of the 2011 Atlantic 10 Championships in third place. Seniors Bob Keogh and Miles Dryden, along with junior Travis Mahoney, each posted first place finishes in their respective events on Saturday in Charlotte.
Rhode Island is in first place with 79 points, followed by Charlotte with 66.50 and the Owls with 53.
Junior Travis Mahoney won the 3000m steeplechase, shattering the A-10 Championships record and bettering his own school record with a time of 8:37.23. The mark ranks second in the nation behind Oregon's Steve Finley (8:36.98). Senior Miles Dryden won the long jump with a season-best mark of 24-06.50. Senior Bob Keogh crushed the competition in the hammer throw, posting a toss of 207-09.
Junior Brian Littlepage contributed valuable points to the Owls' total with a third place finish in the discus, going 150-09. Senior Chris Durante fared well in the javelin, placing third with a mark of 195-04.
Senior Emmanual Freeland qualified for the 100m dash finals with the third-fastest qualifying time of the day, running 10.64.
The A-10 Championships conclude tomorrow, Sunday, May 8.
