Nikorak garners first team accolades with McKoy selected to second team
PHILADELPHIA - Redshirt junior Steve Nikorak and senior Byron McKoy were named to the American baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Region team announced today. Nikorak, a third baseman/pitcher, earned first team honors while McKoy was selected to the second team as an outfielder.
The 2011 Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Year, Nikorak set a school record with 23 doubles this year, leading the city in that category as well as home runs (11) and RBI (58). Also named to the All-Atlantic 10 second team, Nikorak was the team leader in runs scored (56) and ranked second on the team batting .359. The Stroudsburg, Pa., native started all 53 games at third base and, when not commanding the hot corner, made appearances on the mound with four wins and three saves.
Temple's all-time leader in hits, McKoy nearly snapped the single-season record for hits in a season with a team-high 84 this year. The first team all-Big 5 selection ranked third on the team with 18 doubles and first on the squad being a perfect 18-for-18 on stolen base attempts. A native of Charlotte, N.C., McKoy made all 53 starts for the Owls in left field.
