Freshman Duo Perform Well at the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships

EUGENE, Ore. - Two Temple freshmen recorded strong finishes in junior events on Saturday at the USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Philip Fanz placed sixth in the junior 3,000 meter steeplechase, earning junior All-American honors, while Gabe Pickett placed 18th in the junior triple jump.
Fanz's time of 9:24.78 was a personal best and earned him sixth out of the 23 finishers in the event. Pickett's jump of 14.39 meters (47-2 1/2) earned him 18th of close to 30 competitors in the junior triple jump.
Junior All-American Travis Mahoney also competed for Temple, placing 21st in the semifinals of the senior steeplechase event on Friday night, as did freshman Josh McFrazier who just barely missed qualifying for the finals in the 110 meter junior hurdles, placing ninth overall.
