Temple's Travis Mahoney Advances to NCAA Finals in the 3,000 Meter Steeplechase

DES MOINES, Iowa - With the fourth-fastest time in his heat of 8:47.31 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, Temple junior Travis Mahoney advanced to the event final at the NCAA Championships being held this week in Des Moines. Mahoney will be one of 14 runners competing in Friday's final, set for 8:30 p.m. (EST).
"This is a great accomplishment for the program," said head coach Eric Mobley, "and a testament to how strong Travis has been running all year long. I'm very happy for him. It's a testament to the hard work of (distance coach) Matt Jelley as well."
Mahoney had run a personal best at the NCAA East Regional to qualify for the NCAA Championships. Teammate and senior Bob Keogh also earned a spot at the NCAA Championships, and will compete at 4:00 p.m. (EST) on Thursday, June 9 in the hammer throw.
"Now we've got Bob tomorrow and getting ready for his event," said Mobley. "Today was great for us but it's not over, with Bob's event tomorrow and at least one final coming up."
