PHILADELPHIA—Undefeated going into the third game of a regular season for the first time since 1992, the Temple women's soccer team fell 4-1 to the Drexel Dragons (2-1-1) and saw its perfect start come to an end Friday afternoon at Vidas Field.
The Dragons put themselves in command early in the contest by putting up three goals in the opening half.
Senior Niki Conn looked to lead a second half charge by the Owls when she scored her first goal of the season in the 57th minute, but Temple was unable to cash-in on any further chances, despite outshooting Drexel in the second half.
Conn finished the game with seven shots, making it the second straight game in which she's had at least that many. In the 89th minute, Conn nearly brought the Owls within a goal when a shot fed by sophomore Gabby Lopez was stopped by Drexel freshman goalkeeper Eve Badana.
When Badana put the ball back in play, the Dragons went down the other end into Temple territory, where junior Alex Vazquez scored to regain Drexel's three-goal lead with 16 seconds remaining.
On the goal, sophomore Christine Stevenson collected her third assist of the game, setting the Drexel school record for assists in a singe game.
Redshirt junior Tara Murphy made seven saves on 11 shots kicked on goal by the Dragons.
The Owls (2-1-0) have little time for turnaround, as they continue their five-game road swing by heading to Hartford on Sunday to face the Hawks in a match scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
