Volleyball Begins Conference Play at Xavier and Dayton This Weekend

Owls set to face two of the league's toughest teams on the road
PHILADELPHIA - The first weekend of Atlantic 10 play will be a challenging one for Temple volleyball, as the Owls travel to Xavier and Dayton to open conference play this weekend. Temple (4-9) will play at Xavier (7-5) on Friday, Sept. 23 at 7:00 p.m. and will then go on to face Dayton (7-5) on Saturday, Sept. 24 at 7:00 p.m.

Temple recently competed in the Pitt Blue and Gold Tournament where the Owls went 1-2, picking up a 3-0 win over Morgan State but dropping matches to host Pittsburgh (3-0) and New Mexico (3-1). Senior Collin Wallace and sophomore Gabriella Matautia lead the attack with 3.41 kill per set and 3.13 kills per set, respectively. Freshman Tiffany Connatser has 461 assists on the season to rank fifth in the conference with 9.81 assists per set.
Xavier just played its first home match of the season on Sept. 20 against Wright State. The Musketeers swept the Raiders in straight sets. Senior Michelle Matia is second in the A-10 in hitting percentage at .350 and freshman Aubree Smith ranks fourth in the conference in assists with 10.12 assists per set. Redshirt sophomore Alex Smith, the team's leading blocker, is second in the conference with 0.95 blocks per set.
The Musketeers won two of three matches in three of their non-conference tournaments before going 1-2 at their most recent tournament, which included a 3-1 loss to #18 Michigan.
Dayton boasts the A-10's reigning Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week in junior outside hitter Rachel Krabacher and sophomore middle blocker Megan Campbell. Both were named to the All-Tournament Team at the Blue and White Classic in Buffalo, N.Y., last weekend as the Flyers swept all three opponents en route to the tournament title.
Krabacher currently leads the A-10 in kills with 4.53 per set, while Campbell leads the league in blocks with 1.33 per set. Three of Dayton's five losses were to top 25 teams, and Dayton took #7 Illinois to five sets in a road loss.
