CINCINNATI, Ohio - After hanging tough in the first set, the Temple volleyball team lost momentum and ultimately fell in straight sets at Xavier, 25-23, 25-19 and 25-21. Elyse Burkert led the Owls with 13 kills while Collin Wallace led the team with 17 digs.
Temple drops to 4-10 overall and 0-1 in the Atlantic 10, as it was the conference opener for both teams. Xavier improves to 9-5 for the season and 1-0 in the A-10.
The first set was tied as late as 22-22 but two kills from Xavier in the final four points sealed the deal for the Musketeers. Temple was within one at 18-17 in the second set before Xavier pulled away with a 7-2 run to go up 2-0 for the match.
Temple was down by as many as eight in the third set before rallying to pull within two at 21-19, but could come no closer.
The Owls will be back in action on Saturday night at Dayton at 7:00 p.m.
