Kristen McCarthy Named A-10 Women's Basketball Co-Player of the Week; Also Earns Big 5 Honor

Owls earn the weekly honor for the second time this season
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Temple's Kristen McCarthy and George Washington's Tara Booker have been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Basketball Co-Players of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. Desirae Ball was also honored as the Conference's Rookie of the Week. The three recipients were recognized for their performances for games played during the week of Jan. 2-8. McCarthy was also named the Big 5 Women's Basketball Player of the Week, alongside Temple's Khalif Wyatt who earned men's basketball's weekly honor.
McCarthy averaged 18.5 points in a 2-0 week for Temple, including a 64-52 victory at Western Michigan and a come-from-behind, 56-55, triumph in the Owls' A-10 opener at Richmond. The La Puente, Calif., native drained the game-winning bucket with 0.2 second remaining in regulation, as the Owls handed host Richmond a 56-55 loss at the Robins Center. McCarthy posted her third double-double of the season against the Spiders, tallying a team-high 18 points and 11 rebounds. She also scored 19 points against Western Michigan, while adding five rebounds and four steals. McCarthy shot 48.4 percent from the field for the week (15-of-31) and averaged 8.0 rebounds.

Booker averaged 19.0 points and 8.0 rebounds in George Washington's two victories last week over American (60-49, Jan. 2) and Fordham (54-43, Jan. 7). The senior forward began her week by posting 18 points on 7-of-12 (.583) shooting, including two three-pointers with two blocks, two assists and one steal in GW's win over District-rival American on Monday. She followed with a 20 point-performance on 6-of-10 (.600) shooting with eight rebounds and two steals in the Colonials' A-10 opening victory over Fordham. For the week, Booker shot a blistering .591 (13-22) from the field and .444 (4-9) from beyond the arc. As of Monday, Booker has hit 145 career three-pointers, leaving her just six shy of sixth all-time at GW.
Ball averaged 12.0 points and 2.5 rebounds in a pair of home games for Saint Louis last week, including a convincing 81-54 win over Nebraska-Omaha. Against the Mavericks, the Cincinnati, Ohio native scored a career-high 16 points on 47 percent shooting (8-17), as the Billikens put up a season-high 81 points and outscored UNO by a season-best 27-points. Ball closed out the week with eight points, shooting 44 percent from the floor (4-9), while adding three rebounds and two steals in SLU's A-10 opener versus La Salle.
