KINGSTON, R.I. –
With a chance to gather two more Atlantic 10 Conference victories, Temple Men's Soccer (6-4-1, 2-0-0-) heads to the New England region for a pair of matches this weekend. The Owls will take on Rhode Island Friday at 7:00 p.m. before heading to Massachusetts for Sunday's 1:00 p.m. tilt.

TEMPLE NOTES...
Winners of three straight and five of their last six, the Owls are firing on all cylinders, due in large part to the immediate impact of freshman midfielder Jared Martinelli, who is nationally ranked in four offensive categories, including No. 1 among all rookies with 19 points.

Playing their final season in the A-10, the Owls came into the season with the goal of going out on a high note and into the Big East next year with a statement about the program. Should Temple be victorious on Friday evening at URI, it would be the first-time in program history that the Owls have started A-10 play with three straight wins.

Temple has gotten big contributions from players that have carried the team in the past, including juniors Vaughn Spurrier and Jake Lister and senior Cody Calafiore.

Spurrier comes into the weekend with six assists, which has him tied for 11th in the nation and being tied for 17th for assists per game (0.55).  Lister was the hero last weekend when A-10 play started. Scoring the game-winner with three seconds left in the first overtime against St. Bonaventure last Friday, Lister was just heating up. Two days later against Duquesne, the Exton, Pa. native got the Owls on the board early on before coming back later to provide Martinelli with the game-winning field for the tally that got the Owls over the Dukes.

Calafiore has posed a threat for opponents due to the production that he has delivered over the past few seasons, causing Martinelli to have such a strong start. On the year, the Howell, N.J. native has five points—with three of them coming on assists. His move through the midfield in overtime against St. Bonaventure last week catapulted the Owls to stunning the Bonnies on Lister's goal.

Goalkeepers junior Bobby Rosato and sophomore Dan Scheck have played a large part in Temple's streak as of late. Rosato has sported a 0.72 goals against average over the last six games, while Scheck stepped into last Friday's contest against St. Bonaventure to earn the win after turning away all seven shots that were targeted for the goal.

RHODE ISLAND NOTES...
Victories have been scarce for the Rams (2-6-2, 1-0-0) this season, but they come into Friday's home match against the Owls following a win over UMass in their A-10 opener last Saturday. The season got off slow for the Rams, as they opened the year 0-4-2 before collecting their first win against New Hampshire. While its record may not prove its strength URI is undefeated on its home field. Leading the charge for the team has been Mike Casey, who has 12 points on the year, including a team-high five goals. Matt Sykes leads the team with 15 shots on goal, putting him in second place on the team with his eight points on the year, while sophomore defensemen Alan Hernandez has dished out a team-most three assists.

Handling the load in net, freshman Thomas Spenser has started seven games. Through his time, he has made 41 saves and built a goals against average of 2.19, while sporting a save percentage of .745. Upperclassmen Adam Blanchard has made eight appearances in between the posts, including three starts, in which he has put together a 1.70 GAA and a .731 save percentage.

MASSACHUSETTS NOTES...
Before taking on the Owls on Sunday, the Minutemen (3-5-1, 0-1-0) will be looking to even their A-10 record at 1-1-0 after dropping the conference slate opener  on the road at URI last Saturday. UMass got out of the gate on a strong start, opening the season 2-0-1, compliments of the home field advantage at Rudd Field, where the Minutemen are 3-1-1 this season. UMass's only home loss came at the hands of Syracuse prior to opening A-10 play back on Sept. 25. Overall, the Minutemen have been a team that does not go way, as they have been involved in five games by which have been decided by one goal or less.

Josh Schwartz is carrying the bulk of the offensive load for the Minutemen, having three goals, yielding him to six points, which leads the team. Of the eight players that have scored goals, four are tied with three points on the year. Goalkeeper Brian Frame has done all the work in net for UMass this season. Playing and starting all 10 games, the Minutemen netminder has recorded three shutouts, made 50 saves and built a GAA of 1.32.

ALL-TIME SERIES...
URI holds the advantage in the all-tome series with the Owls, owning a record of 14-8-1. Temple will be looking to even up the head-to-head matchup with UMass on Sunday, which stands at 11-10-2 in UMass' favor.

UP NEXT...
Temple returns home next Friday at 2:30 p.m. for its first-ever meeting with the Butler Bulldogs, who are one of the newest members of the Atlantic 10 Conference. Later that weekend, the Owls will finish up its third weekend of A-10 play when it hosts Saint Louis on Sunday for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff at the Ambler Sports Complex.
