Batey and Mavrina move on in singles draw

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Juniors Jordan Batey and Yana Mavrina each moved on to Sunday in the singles main draw of the USTA/ITA Atlantic Regional bracket with wins Saturday afternoon. The event is being held at Virginia Tech on October 19-23.
Batey was a straight-set 6-2, 6-1 winner over Liberty's Brittany Yang on Saturday in the round of 64. She now takes on Isel Martinez-Marcos of Virginia Tech Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
Mavrina was also a winner in the round of 64, using three sets to get past Vicky Sekely of Georgetown, 7-6(6), 4-6, 6-1. She will square off against Virginia's Caryssa Peretz at 12:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
Also active in singles play was Alicia Doms, who dropped a 6-4, 6-1, decision to Virginia Tech's Carol Kahoun.
In doubles play, Batey and Doms teamed up to play the top-seeded team of Petra Januskova and Chelsea Utting of Penn State, dropping an 8-0 decision to end their run. Mavrina and Osei were also still active with a match against Georgetown's Kelly Comolli and Sekely. The Hoyas defeated the TU pair, 8-4, to close out Temple's hopes at a doubles champion.
