RICHMOND, Va. – The Temple women's tennis team opened its 2013 spring season on Saturday, January 19, competing at the 4+1 VCU Invite. The Owls dropped a 3-2 decision to Campbell before falling to the host team, ranked 46th in the country, by a score of 3-0.
Against Campbell, Jordan Batey was the lone winner in singles play. The junior was a 6-4, 6-1 winner over Ana Maria Ortiz. Maame Ama Osei nearly got the Owls a win in her bout, falling in three sets to Tamara Stanic, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4. The doubles tandem of Rebecca Breland and Minami Okajima won by injury default over Natasha Afridi and Lourdes Ros, leading 6-3, 0-6, 2-1 at the time of the match conclusion.
The national power VCU proved too much for the Cherry & White, picking up three straight-set wins in singles play.
TU is 0-2 and will round out play at the event with an 11 a.m. match against Morgan State on Sunday.
