BLACKSBURG, Va. - Juniors Jordan Batey and Yana Mavrina were the only remaining players competing for Temple in the singles main draw of the USTA/ITA Atlantic Regional bracket on Sunday afternoon. The classmates both fell in the round of 32 to end their quest for a title. The event is being held at Virginia Tech on October 19-23.
Batey, playing her fourth match of the weekend after playing her way into the main draw from the qualifier, took an early lead on Isel Martinez-Marcos of Virginia Tech with a 6-3 win in the first set. The junior couldn't hang on, though, and fell 6-0, 6-1 in the final two sets.
Mavrina took on Virginia's Caryssa Peretz, falling in straight sets to the Cavalier, 6-1, 6-0.
Temple's fall season is now complete. The team will open the 2013 spring season with play at the VCU 4+1 Invite on January 18-20.
