Volleyball Hosting Two A-10 Matches This Week Including "Dig Pink" Against VCU on Friday

10.24.12 | Women's Volleyball

PHILADELPHIA - The final five matches of the regular season will be key for Temple volleyball as the Owls (15-8, 5-4) look to earn a spot in the six-team Atlantic 10 Tournament, set for Nov. 16-18. This weekend Temple hosts home matches against VCU (21-3, 7-2) and Charlotte (9-12, 1-8), with the Friday game against VCU designated as the Owls' "Dig Pink" match. There will be an autograph session with the team for all fans after the match.

Friday's contest (Oct. 26) is set for 7:00 p.m. in McGonigle Hall, and all fans are encouraged to wear pink to show support in the fight against breast cancer. The Owls have set up a website to accept donations for the Side-Out Foundation here: https://www.side-out.org/cb/ous/fundraising_page/2472

The purpose of the event is to raise breast cancer awareness and to raise funds for breast cancer research. The Owls' “Dig Pink” event is coordinated with hundreds of other events across the nation through the Side-Out Foundation, whose mission is to raise funding for breast cancer research through high school and collegiate girls' volleyball events.

On Saturday night at 7:00 p.m., Temple will face Charlotte. Live stats for both matches will be available HERE, and live webcasts will be available to subscribers HERE.

TEMPLE RESURGENCE...
With an overall record of 15-8, the Owls are enjoying their most successful season since 2003. DOUBLING UP...
Junior Elyse Burkert has recorded 14 double-doubles this season to lead the team and all players in the Atlantic 10. With 3.99 kills/set, Burkert ranks second in the A-10.

TUPUOLA CRACKS ALL-TIME DIGS LIST...
In Temple's match against Dayton on Sept. 29, Chelsea Tupuola recorded enough digs to move into 10th place all-time in program history in digs. Tupuola has tallied 1,292 digs in her career, surpassing Leslie Brandt (1989-92) who previously held the 10th spot with 1,179 digs. In ninth place stands Shelly Miller with 1,335 digs. Tupuola's 5.33 digs/set this season lead all players in the Atlantic 10.
