Final Results

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Temple Women's Fencing competed at the 41st Annual Garrett Open, hosted by Penn State on Saturday, Nov. 3. Junior Epiphany Georges led the way for the Cherry and White with a fourth place finish in women's foil. She was joined as a finalist by Tiki Kastor, who came in sixth in women's sabre.

The Owls had an additional six semi-finalists. Freshman Fatima Largaespada (9th), senior Mikayla Varadi (11th) and freshman Demi Anitpas (15th) each made the semi-final round in foil.

Sophomore Lauren Rangel-Friedman (13th) and junior Tasia Ford (16th) were semi-finalists in sabre, while senior Jillian Bratton led the way for the epee squad, making the semi-finals and finishing 13th.

Also competing in foil was freshman Olivia Wynn, who placed 26th. In epee, junior Chantal Montrose finished 17th, while freshman Jessica Hall placed 21st and Kimberly Howell turned in a 28th place result. Emily Dodson (18th), Petra Khan (23rd) and Andrea Haley (24th) each advanced to the quarter-final round in sabre.

"Today was a good check on where our team stands as we start the season," assistant coach Bradley Baker said. "This tournament draws most of the top teams in the country and serves as an early indication of what each of our fencers needs to do moving forward. As coaches, we were very happy with the performance of the team today."

"Across the board, we fought well and won some key matches. A majority of the team made at least the semi-finals, which is great for a tournament of this strength. Building from good results last weekend at the Temple Open, we're excited to see what the rest of the year brings. The team has been coming together nicely and we're seeing the benefits of hard work in the gym on a day-to-day basis when we get to competition."

Temple has nearly a month off from competition before starting regular season meets at the Vassar Invitational on Dec. 1.
