Owls drop 7-0 decision to nationally ranked foe
PRINCETON, N.J. – The Temple women's tennis team opened the 2012 spring season in tough fashion, traveling to Princeton, the 50th-ranked team in the country, and dropping a 7-0 decision to the Tigers on Wednesday, February 1, 2012.
Princeton quickly took the 1-0 lead with wins at the first two doubles flights. The host team made it a clean sweep with a victory at number three.
With Princeton up 3-0, sophomore Jordan Batey nearly got the Owls on the board with a three-set match at second singles. Batey took the first set from Lindsay Graff, 6-1, but Graff turned it around and won the final two sets, 6-1, 6-0, to keep the shutout in place.
With the match decided after a Princeton win at the third flight, sophomore Yana Mavrina and the Tigers' Hilary Bartlett played a nail biter at number one with Bartlett squeaking out a 7-5, 7-6(5) win.
Temple is 0-1 overall and will return to action on Sunday, February 5, with a 1 p.m. at Cornell.
