Mavrina and Calderon Win In Singles Play
ITHACA, N.Y. - The Temple women's tennis team came up against another tough Ivy League school, falling at Cornell 5-2 on Sunday, February 5, 2012. TU falls to 0-2 on the year.
Cornell breezed through the doubles matches, sweeping Temple to take a 1-0 lead.
The host team jumped out to a 2-0 lead with Gabby Sullivan's 6-0, 6-2 win over Rebecca Breland at number five. The Owls got within one when Yana Mavrina defeated Sarah O'Neil, 6-0, 6-2 at the first flight.
The match was decided after the Big Red took wins at numbers three and six. Paola Calderon was TU's only other singles winner, taking a thriller over Lauren Frazier at number four, 6-7(5), 6-1, 10-2.
The Owls are 0-2 and will be back in action on Friday, February 10, when they host Atlantic 10 foe Massachusetts at 11 a.m. at Arthur Ashe Tennis Center.
