Women's Tennis Gets First Win of 2012 Season, Defeats Duquesne 4-1

Owls win over Dukes at Arthur Ashe Tennis Center
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Temple's women's tennis team finally picked up that first elusive win of the 2012 season, defeating visiting Duquesne, 4-1, at Arthur Ashe Tennis Center on Saturday, February 11, 2012. The Owls are now 1-3 on the year, and 1-1 against Atlantic 10 foes.
The sophomore/freshman duo of Jordan Batey and Maame Ama Osei got TU off to a strong start, defeating their opponents at the third doubles flight, 8-5. The Dukes came back to take the win at No. 1, but Yana Mavrina and Paola Calderon secured the point with a tiebreaker win at the second flight, 9-8(5).
In singles action, Agnese Rozite started the Owls off with a victory at number four, defeating Paula Gruber, 6-3, 6-0. Breland made it a 3-0 Temple lead with her win over Chandler Consonery at the fifth flight, 6-2, 6-2.
Duquesne got on the board with Tara Majdalani's 6-1, 6-3 win over Carly Bohman, but TU rebounded and secured the win when Batey took a straight-set victory from Judy Li at number three, 6-3, 6-2.
Temple will be back in action on Saturday, February 18, with an 11 a.m. match at Syracuse.
