KINGSOTN, R.I. – Senior Travis Mahoney led the Temple men's track and field squad to a fourth place finish in the 2012 Atlantic 10  Indoor Championships, held at the University of Rhode island's Mackal Fieldhouse, by claiming event titles in the 1 Mile Run with a finish time of 4:12.41 before setting a new Temple University record time of 8:20.80 in the  3000 Meter Run. Mahoney, a conference champion in two events, was honored as the A-10 Performer of the Year.

“Travis' performance was huge,” head coach Eric Mobley said. “He's one you expect big results from because he is so talented. He went out there and performed like the champion that he is.”

In the high jump event, sophomore Darryl McDuffie and senior Tim Malloy  played a strong part in Temple's fourth place finish in the conference championship, as met IC4A qualifying standards . McDuffie placed second overall in the event final with his jump distance of 6 feet, 8.25 inches. Malloy matched McDuffie's landing spit in more attempts to take fourth place.

Sophomore Josh McFrazier led off the second day of the A-10 Championships for Temple in the 60 meter hurdle, where he earned the Owls six points, as he placed third with a time of 8.16.

Second-year jumper Gabe Pickett landed 47 feet, 11.25 inches in the triple jump to take the runner-up position in the event.

In other field event finals, senior Brian Littlepage and sophomore Ryan Maccie competed in the shot put. Littlepage's 42 feet, 2.25 inch toss was good for seventh-best, beating out Maccie in eighth place by a quarter inch.

Sophomore Alex McGe and junior Damian Myers combined for seven points in the 400 meter dash, as the two finished fifth and sixth respectively.

“I was very pleased with our performance and to see our team step up in this type of competition,” Mobley said. “Once again, we had many of our guys and ladies capture ECAC and IC4A qualifying times, while others also set new personal bests.”

Temple will get back in action in two weeks it heads to Boston University March 3rd and 4th for the IC4A Championships for a chance to compete in the NCAA Championships.
