KINGSTON, R.I. – Shey Peddy tied the Temple women's basketball single-game record with 10 steals, also scoring a game-high 22 points as the Owls earned an 84-41 road win at Rhode Island. Temple (18-8, 11-1) won its 11th straight game, forcing 30 turnovers while committing only five of them- a season low.

As a team, the Owls recorded 27 steals to tie the program record for a single game, set back in 1998 in a game against Xavier. Peddy's record-tying performance matched the 10 steals by Stacey Dean in a game against Penn State in 1985. Her 10 steals also tie for the fifth-best performance by an individual in NCAA Division I so far this season.

Kristen McCarthy scored 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field, and Tyonna Williams came off the bench for 10 points. Victoria Macaulay and Brittany Lewis each scored eight points while also tying for game-high honors with eight rebounds, and BJ Williams scored eight points while also dishing a game-high five assists. Williams and Lewis contributed significantly to the steals total with five apiece.

Rhode Island (1-26, 0-12) was led by Emilie Cloutier with 11 points and Sherrie Session with 10.

The Owls struggled against the Rams' zone defense early on, hitting just 3-of-14 from the field in the first seven and a half minutes, but their own full-court press helped lead to 10 turnovers in the first 10 minutes by URI.

After trailing 8-9 at 14:33, Temple broke the game open with a 13-2 run that included making 5-of-5 attempts the line. The run gave the Owls their first double-digit lead, 21-11, just after the midway point of the half.

With a 24-15 lead and 8:22 left in the first, Temple turned up the defensive pressure even more as three fastbreak layups highlighted a 14-0 run. The Owls held the Rams without a field goal for more than eight minutes until the final seconds of the half, and took a 45-21 lead into the break. Temple committed just three turnovers in the half while forcing 17 by Rhode Island.

The Owls held the Rams to just 20 points in the second half, and improved their shooting to 53 percent (17-of-32) from the field.

Temple used a late, 14-2 run to take a 48-point lead, its largest of the game, at 84-36 with 2:19 remaining. The Owls committed just two turnovers in the second half, and out-rebounded the Rams 18-9.

For the game Temple finished with a 37-0 edge in points off turnovers, a 20-0 edge in fastbreak points, and a 10-2 advantage in second-chance points.

Next up for the Owls is their final home game of the season, on Wednesday, Feb. 22 at 7:00 p.m. against Saint Joseph's in McGonigle Hall. Temple's four seniors- Connelly, McCarthy, Peddy and Williams, will be honored prior to tip-off as part of Senior Night.
