PHILADELPHIA - Seniors Joelle Connelly, Kristen McCarthy, Shey Peddy and BJ Williams will be honored for Temple women's basketball's Senior Night on Wednesday, Feb. 22 before the Owls face Saint Joseph's at 7:00 p.m. in McGonigle Hall. Temple (18-8, 11-1 A-10, 1-1 Big 5) is going for its 12th straight win while the Hawks (18-8, 8-4 A-10, 2-1 Big 5) are going for win number five in a row and looking to break a 12-game losing streak against the Owls.

THE OPENING TIP
•Temple is 11-1 in the Atlantic 10 and riding an 11-game win streak, having lost just one game since the start of 2012...Most recently the Owls got an 84-41 win at Rhode Island and a 75-54 home win vs. GW.

•The Owls stand alone in second place in the A-10 with their lone loss coming to now-#22/25 St. Bonaventure, still only Temple's second regular-season A-10 loss since the 2009-10 season.

•Senior Shey Peddy, along with being named the A-10 and Big 5 Player of the Week, was honored as the U.S. Basketball Writers Assocation's (USBWA) National Player of the Week for her performances vs. Rhode Island and GW...She tied the program's single-game record for steals with 10 at URI, along with scoring a game-high 22 points, and scored 15 points while pulling down eight boards in the GW win.

•Temple's 27 steals in the Rhode Island win tied the program record for steals in a game, set in 1998.

•Having allowed their opponents 55 or fewer points in 13 games this season including nine A-10 games, the Owls lead all teams in the A-10 in scoring defense for conference games at 54.9 points per game.

•Tonight's game is a Big 5 contest but neither team can finish higher than second, as Villanova clinched the city series back in January with a perfect 4-0 record.

•For A-10 games only, Kristen McCarthy ranks fourth in the league in scoring (15.0), ninth in rebounding (7.1) and 12th in steals (1.8).

BJ Williams had a season-best performance at Saint Louis (2/8) with 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting from the field including 3-of-6 behind the arc...Victoria Macaulay recorded a double-double in the win with 10 points and a career-tying 13 rebounds.

BJ Williams is currently leading all players in the A-10 with 124 assists (5.0 per game).

Victoria Macaulay is averaging 10.3 ppg in A-10 games along with 8.9 rpg (second in the A-10 for league games)...Her 27 blocks in A-10 play rank first among all players at 2.3 blocks per game.

Shey Peddy currently ranks second among all players in the A-10 with 16.6 points per game, and also ranks second in steals with 83 (3.2 per game).

•Freshman Rateska Brown came off the bench for a career-high 12 points at Saint Louis and recently scored 10 points off the bench in just 16 minutes of action vs. George Washington.

•Four of the Owls' losses have been to teams ranked in the Top 25, while two other losses were to St. Bonaventure, now ranked 19th in the AP Poll, and St. John's, now ranked 20th in the AP Poll.

•Saint Joseph's has climbed into a tie for fourth in the A-10 thanks to four straight wins, including an 85-73 win over sixth-place Charlotte this past weekend...Senior Michelle Baker leads the Hawks with 11.7 ppg while four other players are averaging between 7.8 and 9.8 ppg in a well-balanced offense...Senior Kelly Cavallo leads the team with 8.2 rebounds per game, which ranks third among all players in the A-10.

SERIES RECORD
Temple and Saint Joseph's are meeting for the 72nd time since the city rivals began playing each other in 1938. Although Saint Joseph's leads the all-time series 39-33, the Owls have won 18 of the last 19 including the last 12 straight and one already this season. Many of the recent games have proven very competitive, and at Saint Joseph's back on Feb. 1 the Owls needed a strong performance at the free throw line in an 80-70 victory. Last season Temple won 53-43 at home before edging the Hawks 52-49 on the road to clinch the Big 5 Championship.

LAST TIME VS. SAINT JOSEPH'S
For the first time since 1989, three players scored 20 or more points as Temple held tough for an 80-70 win at Saint Joseph's on Feb. 1. The Owls got 26 points from Shey Peddy, a career-high 21 from Victoria Macaulay and 20 from Kristen McCarthy.

The Hawks had four players reach double-figures in the high-scoring affair, led by Samira Van Grinsven and Ashley Prim with 13 points apiece.

Peddy hit 10-of-10 at the free throw line as FT's essentially won the game for Temple. The Owls hit 21-of-25 at the line including 18-of-20 in the second half. SJU was never out of striking distance and pulled to within seven with 52 seconds left, but the Owls were able to hold them off at the FT line as they sank 11 of their final 12 attempts including 5-of-6 in the final minute.

PEDDY IS NATIONAL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
The U.S. Basketball Writers Association (USBWA) selected Peddy as its Women's National Player of the Week for games ending the week of Feb. 19. Peddy is the season's final recipient of the award.

As the A-10 Player of the Week, Peddy was nominated for the weekly award, which was chosen by a representative of the USBWA board of directors from a list of Division I conference players of the week. Peddy averaged 18.5 points, 7.5 steals and 5.0 rebounds in two games as Temple's win streak reached 11 games. She had a career-high 10 steals in Sunday's win at Rhode Island, tying a school record set in 1985. She also scored 22 points in the win over the Rams and leads the Owls and is second in the A-10 in scoring with a 16.6 average.

STEALING RECORDS
With 27 steals as a team in an 84-41 win at Rhode Island on Feb. 19, the Owls tied the program record for steals in a game, set back in 1998. Shey Peddy recorded 10 of those steals to tie the individual single-game record set in 1985, while BJ Williams and Brittany Lewis contributed significantly with five steals apiece.

SECOND-HALF HEROICS
Temple trailed George Washington 32-30 at halftime on Feb. 15 before putting on an impressive display in the second half. The Owls scored 45 points on 64.3 percent shooting, at one point exploeded for an 18-0 run, and held the Colonials without a field goal for a 10-minute stretch.

BRACKETOLOGY
ESPN's Charlie Creme released his latest Bracketology on Feb. 20, in which he has Temple as a 10 seed playing seventh-seeded Vanderbilt in Nashville, Tenn.

TRIPLE DEUCE
For the first time since 1989, three Owls scored 20 or more points in Temple's 80-70 win at Saint Joseph's on Feb. 1. Shey Peddy led TU with 26, Victoria Macaulay scored a career-high 21, and Kristen McCarthy added a double-double of 20 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Macaulay's 20th and 21st points were in the final minute as she hit 2-of-2 at the line with 27 seconds remaining.

EXTRA POSSESSIONS
To say Temple had more opportunities on offense than Rhode Island in the Owls' win there on Feb. 19 would be an understatement. Thanks to a season-low five turnovers, the fewest since a Temple team committed just three vs. Villanova on Dec. 21, 2004, the Owls took 68 total shots compared to the Rams' 38.

Temple forced URI to commit 30 turnovers, off which it got its record-tying 27 steals. It was the most turnovers by an opponent since UMass committed 32 of them just over a year ago.

PEDDY THEFT
Shey Peddy continues to find ways to grab the ball from Temple's opponents, as she leads the team and ranks second in the A-10 this season with 83 steals (3.2 per game). Peddy set the program's all-time record for steals in a single season last year with 104, recording at least one steal in all but one game. Her 3.2 spg a year ago ranked second in the A-10 and tied for 10th in NCAA Division?I. This season, Peddy currently ranks 13th in NCAA Division I and recently tied Temple's program record for steals in a game with 10 in a win at Rhode Island.

McCARTHY STANDS IN FIFTH ALL-TIME
With a game-high 14 points vs. Villanova on Dec. 22, Kristen McCarthy moved into fifth all-time at Temple in career scoring, now with 1,552 points.

McCarthy started the season in 11th place and has advanced six spots. She is now close to reaching fourth as Kamesha Hairston ('07) holds that spot with 1,573 points (21 ahead).

BJ DISTRIBUTION COMPANY
Senior BJ Williams has led the Owls in assists in 19 games and has racked up 124 total assists (5.0 per game) to lead all players in the Atlantic 10.

MID-MAJOR #10
Graham Hays, a women's basketball writer for ESPN, released his newest Mid-Major Top 10 poll on Feb. 13 which ranks Temple in the #10 spot. Says Hays, “Temple returns on the strength of nine consecutive wins in the A-10, keeping the Owls at least nominally in the race for the top seed in the A-10 tournament despite St. Bonaventure's torrid pace. Other than a loss at Northern Illinois, there aren't any head-scratchers on the Temple résumé, with only Villanova an NCAA tournament question mark among the seven other teams to beat Tonya Cardoza's team.

“Conference play has been a boon to all involved, but Victoria Macaulay more than most. The 6-foot-4 junior is averaging 10.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game in Atlantic 10 games.”

SPREADING THE OFFENSE
In back-to-back wins vs. UMass and GW, the Owls had five players score in double figures after previously not having that occur in even a single game since last season. In Temple's 77-50 win vs. UMass on Feb. 11, Victoria Macaulay led the team with 18, BJ Williams had 13, Kristen McCarthy and Shey Peddy scored 12, and Brittany Lewis scored 11 and notched her first career double-double with a career-high 11 rebounds.

McCarthy led all players with 21 points in the win against GW on Feb. 15, while Peddy added 15, Lewis had 14, Rateska Brown scored 10 and Macaulay notched her third career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

THREE NAILBITERS
Three of the Owls' early A-10 wins (Richmond, Dayton, Duquesne) all saw the teams separated by just a point in the final minute, but Temple hung on to win all three and prove it has what it takes to hang on in tight games.

THREE-POINT STREAK
The final game of the 2008-09 season marked the last time Temple did not hit at least one three-pointer as a team. The Owls have now achieved that feat for 93 straight games.

VILLANOVA CLAIMS BIG 5 TITLE
Although Temple has played only two Big 5 games this season, the title has already been claimed by Villanova who went a perfect 4-0 in the city series. The 2010-11 Big 5 title was Temple's alone as the Owls edged Saint Joseph's 52-49 on Feb. 23, completing a 4-0 sweep. The previous year was the first in six seasons that Temple had NOT won or shared the title, and this year now marks only the second time that has happened in the last eight years. Last year's title was Temple's ninth overall and eighth outright since the Big 5 tradition was established for women's basketball in 1979-80.
